Community Service

Posted February 2, 2015

At JELA we believe that children learn by example.  Students from Westside Country Day School helped our JELA students in an afternoon of community service.  The WCDS middle schoolers and our JELA children worked as a team to pick up recycleable trash from the Westside Community Park.  Our students learned how to give back to the community while being led by teen leaders.

Arts and Theater

This year's JELA production of "How Does Your Garden Grow" was a huge success!  The play was an adaptation of the nursery rhyme "Mary, Mary Quite Contrary."  The performance focused on how to plant a garden and what goes in the garden.

JELA Music Recital

Posted February 11, 2015

High notes, low notes and all the notes in between!  The JELA students performed the annual winter music recital with excitement!

After six weeks of practice, the students were ready to show their parents that hard work pays off!  JELA music enrichment continues this month during the kick off of Black History Month with a visit to the Jacksonville Symphony.

Our 4 and 5 year olds have a basic understanding of science and what it takes to observe and conduct experiments.  This year we are encouraging their imagination with the first JELA Science Fair.  Please see the parent newsletter for more information.

"Little Hands Raised"
Mentoring Program

Posted February 19, 2015

Last year the "Little Hands Raised" mentoring program was started by the senior class of Northside High School Academy.  These seniors were committed to sharing with our youngsters what it takes to be successful in school and what a high school graduate with potential looks like.

Their big brothers and sisters met with them once a month and mentored our students.  As a new class of seniors visit our little ones, we're hopefull that each year the friendships will shine just as bright.
